The BAnd

Five Mile Mountain Road is a powerhouse string-band with a fresh but fiery take on hillbilly music. Based out of Franklin County, VA, the band’s lineup features a perfectly selected group of musicians that when combined, create more music out of a few instruments than one could even imagine.

Fiddlin’ Billy Hurt of Boone’s mill, Virginia, is a true, “dyed in the wool” old-time fiddler who draws his inspiration from his music hero, Clark Kessinger. His love and longing for bygone days can be felt in every passionate stroke of his bow across the strings and every note sung.

Brennen Ernst, originally from Loudon, VA is a swinging guitar guru, ragtime piano master, and singer, keeping the rhythm HOT and punching through each song. His playing evokes the legends of the golden twenties such as Django and Fats Waller. Brennen is a legend born about 100 years too late.

Conner Vlietstra, of Chattanooga TN, brings his most soulful singing to you, making you believe every story he coos into the mic. His stylish and tactful guitar playing fills every nook and cranny with flavor and power and is reminiscent of players like Riley Puckett and Arthur Tanner. His twin fiddling next to Billy’s is a beautiful compliment, doing the songs their due justice.

Trevor Holder, is from Ringgold, GA. According to Bluegrass Unlimited, he is a modern banjo master. He shares his diverse abilities from classic banjo numbers of the pre-war era, to clawhammer, all the way to the Don Reno style he plays immaculately, allowing him to effortlessly dance through shows without skipping a beat. In addition, Trevor is a dexterous steel guitarist. Trevor performs with “The Price Sisters”, an up and coming band on the bluegrass scene, as well as the Chattanooga Dogs.

Josh Gooding, originally from Vacaville California, now in Johnson City TN hails from a music family. He is a direct musical incarnation of his hero, Frank Wakefield. There are few, if any, who can top his electric picking. He has played with “The Little Roy and Lizzy Show” before joining Jason Carter and Five Mile Mountain Road.

Austin Janey of Martinsville, Virginia, a sensational multi-instrumentalist drives the ship with his effective and potent bass rhythm. After his time in Nashville playing with the modern country star, Sierra Ferrell, he joined forces with the gang. Austin is a master in every style and fashion of playing. His love for all music gives him a supernatural groove. If he has heard it, he can play it, not just well, but exactly the way it’s meant to be played. His bass playing is not background music, but a show in itself.

Each member brings their own independent show to the table to exhibit. Nobody stands behind the other in a musical shadow, but enhances the show over all. Their Dynamic energy on stage will make you want to jump out of your seat and dance. While they’re sure to deliver solid old-time and bluegrass music, they also mix things up with twin fiddles, steel guitar, and ragtime piano, shifting effortlessly between styles. The result is a high-energy show that keeps the audience endlessly engaged!
